The needle becomes blunt ,developing nicks , burrs and barbs ,which can easily cause redness, swellings and lumps on the skin surface ,increasing the pain during injection .It may also lead to clogging of the needle tube and leakage of the pen cartridge ,affecting the absorption of insulin and increasing the treatment cost .
